News broke last week announcing Xbox Corporate Vice President Marc Whitten, who had been with the company for 14 years, was leaving to become Chief Product Officer at wireless audio company Sonos. Whitten had positive words regarding Microsoft's new console and its future as he departed, granting some optimism to those hoping the Xbox One improves as time continues.
Talking to Major Nelson on the latest episode of his show, Whitten explains that there is a lot more to come for the console, and only now are we beginning to see what the future has in store. The console has a lot of potential for the future, and Whitten emphasizes that the best is yet to come.
Part of what's awesome to me right now is I think you're starting to see what Xbox One can become," he explained. "So much for us was around, 'Hey, let's build this architecture that we could rev quickly, that we could add to, that was flexible, that would allow us to do more things and do more things quickly.'
"It's a great time to be on Xbox...and it's just beginning. "There's so many things. I can't wait to see where it goes from here," Whitten finished.
The console is largely built around acting as a media center for your living room, but some of its multimedia features still need fleshing out. The next updated slated for April deals with some of these issues, adding fixes to the DVR and a better UI.
Executives Steve Ballmer and Don Mattrick both left Microsoft recently, but hopefully this trend is a change in direction rather than a sign of real issues within the company. Microsoft CEO Ballmer was succeeded by Satya Nadella this February.
