"Overwatch" is about to celebrate its one-year anniversary this May and fans are obviously excited about some new content to mark the occasion. The developer has consistently delivered great after-market support for the team-based shooter in the form of balance updates, new heroes, seasonal events and new maps. The most recent map added to the game was Oasis, as well as some other maps showcasing different times of the day.
According to a report from Game Rant, Blizzard has revealed that they have six new maps in the works for "Overwatch". Sources claim that a fan posted a message on the game's official forums to complain about the lack of new maps. The user reportedly pointed out that the shooter is about to welcome its first anniversary and there have only been a few new maps added. Therefore, the game's director Jeff Kaplan replied that they studio is working on six new maps to be added in the future.
Kaplan further shared some information about the upcoming maps and their descriptions. Among the six maps currently being developed, three are considered "standard," which can be used for competitive and quickplay game mode. He also noted that these three have already passed the "initial playtesting stage." The remaining maps were called "non-standard" and have not yet been given a description. The "Overwatch" game director also teased something about a "few other experiments going on."
Blizzard did not share any information about the expected launch dates for the new maps but pointed out that their team is working on it as fast as they can. Additionally, he teased that they also want to play as "badly" as the fans on these new maps. A recent interview with the "Overwatch" game director revealed that their design team wants to create heroes and maps that reflect different regions in the world.
"Overwatch" fans that are waiting for Blizzard to make a big announcement during this year's E3 might be disappointed. A report from Gamenguide states that the developer confirmed that they have no announcements to make during the game show. However, the team might schedule something else to commemorate the game's one-year anniversary. Fans can only speculate if it will be a new hero and more maps for the team-based shooter.
