Reaper of Souls, the hugely anticipated expansion to Blizzard's hit action RPG Diablo III, will release tonight. The game servers go live at 12:01 AM on March 25, which is when you can finally see what the new Crusader character class will have to offer. The game's story sees Malthael, the fallen Archangel of Wisdom, returning as the Angel of Death and naturally you and your party is the only chance to stop him.
The expansion has already made people happy- in preperation for it Blizzard shut down its most hated Auction House, and tweaked Diablo III greatly in order to incorporate its new "Loot 2.0" system. The game will now be much more about grabbing that sweet, sweet loot, as every Diablo player wants.
Those of you who buy Reaper of Souls next week will get an additional bonus: free Hearthstone cards. Pick up the standard edition of the game and you'll get one pack of cards, while the digital deluxe edition and retail collector's edition come with three each. That $60 deluxe edition will also give you three additional characters slots and a Spectral Hound Minion, because why should you face Death without your faithful puppy?
But that's not a bad extra since a pack of Hearthstone cards cost around $1.49 and come with five cards. Of course, the thing is that, since the game is modeled on a collectible card game, they're selected at random. You will get at least one card that's Rare or higher, hopefully Epic or Legendary if you're really lucky, but there's always the chance that you won't get much. Still, for the free-to-play card game it's a nice little bonus.
PS4 owners who want to pick up Diablo III need to remember that their edition will come bundled with both the main game and expansion. It's a good bet that the upcoming Xbox One version (which has been all but confirmed by Blizzard) will contain the same.
