Game of Thrones MMO Rumors: Everything We Know About Nexon's Potential Project

A Game of Thrones-themed massively multiplayer online game is rumored to be in the works by Korean video game publisher Nexon.

The information is based on a new report from a fansite for The Witcher, Redanian Intelligence, who supposedly heard about the project and many of its gameplay details. The rumored Game of Thrones MMORPG will allegedly be set in the North.

This is a region that is home to the heroic Stark family and the game will supposedly feature Winterfell and The Will as well. The alleged project is said to be planned to be set within the popular TV series' timeline around season four and season five.

This is during the latter half of A Storm of Swords and stretches into A Dance with Dragons. This particular setting is when Roose Bolton is Warden of the North and Jon Snow is hanging out with the Night's Watch.

Players are said to be able to choose between either a new male or female protagonist to exist within the game's world. Additionally, their unpicked choice will still be included in the story, similar to how Mass Effect Andromeda worked, according to Eurogamer.

Game of Thrones has had a mixed history of video game adaptations over the years, including the generally accepted Telltale Games series to many mobile and web game spin-offs. However, if rumors about the MMO project are accurate, it could be the first to finally receive positive player reviews.

This comes as the idea of an MMO inspired by Game of Thrones is generally accepted as a good idea on paper. The Seven Kingdoms are an enormous landmass that was featured in the nooks and the TV series. They showed off characters traveling through various regions for weeks on end.

For now, it remains unclear which company will actually be developing the supposed Game of Thrones MMO. It also begs the question of whether it would be worked on internally within Nexon or will be given to another studio entirely.

Taking Inspiration From the TV Show

Rumors claimed that the Game of Thrones MMO is being designed similarly to The Elder Scrolls Online. They come as Nexon has hundreds of millions of registered users across its other games, including The Finals, Dungeon & Fighter, MapleStory, and KartRider, said IGN.

News of the potential game comes as the TV series ended five years ago and left many fans disappointed. This could be an opportunity as they may be eager to return to an era of Westeros that is unplagued by the show's ending.

However, things could also turn for the worse as fans could be too burned out by the show's ending to have any interest in a game set within its timeline. Another rumor is that the game will not feature any of the TV show's actors to voice characters inside the MMO itself.

The rumors also did not give any potential timeline for the game itself so there is no information on how far it has already gone in the development process.

While the success of the game is still unsure, many fans are hoping that it doesn't get canceled until it gets a chance to show what it's made of, according to Kotaku.
