He added that the game will be revealed "soon" but also warned that the leaked release schedule is still subject to change because it is simply a date that the developers are targeting. Dusk Golem also said that Resident Evil 9 has been in the works for the past seven years.

The leaker said that January 2025 was a date that recently heard about but one that he had previously come across as a probable target.

He also noted that he would not be leaking any more rumors or details about the game, urging fans of the franchise to wait for Capcom to surprise people, according to Insider Gaming.

The rumors come as the Resident Evil franchise is one of the most popular series for Capcom and is considered a pioneer of the survival horror genre. The franchise debuted with its first game in 1996 with Resident Evil and has maintained a loyal fanbase to this day.

The last game in the franchise that was released is Resident Evil 4 Remake and it sold more than 3 million units in its first two days. As of May 2024, the title had sold more than 7 million units.

In terms of mainline releases, the latest title was Resident Evil Village, which was released almost three years ago and introduced the devious Countess Alcina Dimitrescu. Since then, there are many fans who have speculated that Capcom will reveal new details on the unofficially-dubbed Resident Evil 9.

On top of leaking the potential release schedule for the upcoming game, Dusk Golem also shared some intriguing details about the latest game in the franchise. He claimed that Capcom was developing Resident Evil 9 at the same time that it was working on Resident Evil Village, said GameRant.

Potential Release Date

The latter was originally a mainline series game and transitioned to a spin-off title before going back. The leaker noted that this back-and-forth in development was due to the company working on the two titles simultaneously.

This kind of work is considered to be relatively common as Resident Evil projects are "usually greenlit in batches" to make sure that they have "near annual" releases. This comes as there are rumors that another batch of Resident Evil games are reportedly being worked on.

These could include potential remakes of Resident Evil 5 or Resident Evil Code: Veronica. Dusk Golem also noted that Resident Evil 9 not only had the longest development time in the franchise but also the biggest budget.

Despite Dusk Golem being a reliable leaker, fans of the franchise should take his words with a grain of salt as games in development are subject to change throughout the process, according to GamingBible.
