Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Releases Latest Update, Adding New Modes, Cosmetics

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is gearing up for what is described as its "final development roadmap" with its latest update that will add new game modes and cosmetics.

The update comes nine years after Metroidvania legend Koji Igarashi first brought the game to Kickstarter where it became the most-funded video game in the history of the platform. This year, the developer, Artplay, will be able to fulfill the campaign's final remaining stretch goal.

Back in 2015, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night blasted right through its initial Kickstarter goal of $500,000. The game's developers have put up many stretch goals in order to incentivize further funding from the community.

The game ended up with $5,545,991 which was enough to unlock nearly two dozen stretch goals. While a handful of those were adjusted, one, which was the PlayStation Vita port, was canceled altogether.

However, over the course of the past decade, Artplay has slowly started to deliver on almost every single one of those extra features that it promised. For the $3.25 million goal, it was noted that the game would have "asynchronous online multiplayer," which was never fully explained, according to GamesRadar.

It was presumably supposed to be some sort of Dark Souls system where players can leave messages or see the ghosts of other players. It was the final stretch goal of the Kickstarter campaign and has now been replaced by full-on co-op and versus multiplayer functions.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night's update 1.5 which will be launching on May 16, 2024, on Nintendo Switch and May 9, 2024, on all other platforms, is said to be the "final update to the game."

The upcoming patch will add the new Chaos Mode, where players will have to run through randomized rooms as they fight against enemies either by themselves or with other players.

There will also be a new Versus Mode where players will fight a bunch of enemies, earn souls, and spend them on upgrades for their abilities and debuffs on opponents who are also trying to survive.

Achieving the Final Stretch Goals

It has also been clarified that these two new modes will not support cross-play but despite this, many players are eager to try them out. Furthermore, there will be premium cosmetic packs that players can get, including a Shantae-themed free costume, said Nintendo Life.

Another feature to look out for that will also be added is another new mode known as "Classic II" which will launch sometime after the update itself. This will supposedly bring the same gameplay as the first "Classic Mode" but will feature a larger map and its own canon storyline.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is considered the spiritual successor of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. This is primarily because of its rewarding Metroidvania-style gameplay and stylish 2.5D graphics.

Over the years, Artplay's game has received multiple updates and previous patches added additional playable characters and single-player experiences. The studio also announced that it would be working on the physical PC version of the game, according to GameRant.
