The "Uncharted" series has always revolved around the Nathan Drake and the gang. However, the latest game from the series "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy" will instead feature Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross instead of the smart-mouthed adventurer. It was obvious from the game's first reveal that Drake won't be the protagonist of this new installment, but sources have recently revealed that he won't make an appearance in the game at all.
It seems that the absence of Nathan Darke in "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy" was officially confirmed through the Sony PlayStation Blog. The game director Kurt Margenau revealed that they initially planned for him to appear as a cameo, but decided otherwise after some discussions. Game Rant claims that the studio believes that his story was already given closure after the events in "Uncharted 4".
Reports are also indicating that it might seem a bit forced if they push for Nathan Drake to make an appearance in "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy". According to Margenau, they were interested in having "Nate as a secondary character" but they felt it was already "superfluous" due to the ending of the latest installment. While it is understandable that most fans might miss his humor, it appears that Naughty Dog made a good decision to ruin the closure he was given.
Margenau apparently joked that some players might imagine Nathan Drake on the couch with a controller on hand and "Crash Bandicoot" on the TV. But other reports also speculate that another Drake might make an appearance instead in "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy". Fans suspect Sam could act as a replacement for the meantime.
IGN reports that the events in "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy" happen roughly 12 months after things wrapped up in "Uncharted 4". Since Nathan Drake was hinted to have retired from adventuring, new protagonists Nadine Ross and Chloe Frazer resume the mantle. The duo will reportedly work together to reclaim the Tusk of Ganesh. The developer has flaunted that the new game will feature "the single largest level" seen in an "Uncharted" game.
