Avid users of cloud solutions would be glad to know that a new entry to the industry has been made by two leaders. VMware and Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) have announced a partnership that will deliver a new hybrid cloud service for users worldwide.
According to a BusinessWire press release, the collaboration between VMWare and Amazon is set to deliver a massive, fully-integrated hybrid cloud service that runs on what is touted as the world's most robust public cloud service: VMware's Cloud. This collaboration will also allow VMware Cloud users to access Amazon services such as storage, databases, analytics, and more.
The Amazon and VMware team up brings together the world's leading private cloud and the world's leading public cloud to deliver a range of services from Amazon, all on a secure platform powered by the unified SDDC platform called VMware Cloud Foundation. The system will also run on a next-generation, bare metal AWS infrastructure, ensuring the best services from both companies to date.
For now, the services are still in the technology preview phase, as per Tech Crunch. The collaboration between VMware and Amazon can soon be tested by users through an invite-only beta, which begins early next year. The AWS service is set to arrive sometime in 2017 and will be operated, sold, and supported by VMware. It will, however, integrate the Amazon/AWS portfolio into the system.
While the collaboration is still in its early stages of testing, Amazon and VMware already have clients in Western Digital and Sysco. This is groundbreaking for Amazon, which deviated from the common focus of the hybrid cloud, which companies such as Microsoft and IBM currently use. The collaboration will enable users to utilize the SDCC infrastructure software, as well as the vSphere, VSAN, and NSX, while accessing Amazon's services. The hybrid cloud service is arriving in 2017.
