Linkedin is gaining huge popularity worldwide and has announced release of Linkedin Lite in India. The professional and business social networking site has already reached 100 million registered users in Asia Pacific.
According to TechCrunch, while waiting for Microsoft's $26.2 billion acquisition deal to formally close, Linkedin is moving ahead with its expansion plans in other parts of the world. It has set its sight on India with the unveiling of three new tools that it hopes to increase the already 37 million strong user base it has in the country.
In the same post by TechCrunch, Linkedin Lite was launched in India as an effort to give access to users who do not own top of the line smartphones. Also, those that have limited access to mobile data services.
Essentially, the app is a toned down version of the Linkedin that will run in most if not all handsets available in the region. Linkedin Placements was also announced which is a service that provides online testing for users that will help them find jobs. Another tool, Linkedin Starter Pack, was released which targets businesses who want to engage in their platform.
Meanwhile, a report by CNET said that Linkedin founder Reid Hoffman has offered a $5 million charity donation in return for US presidential candidate Donald Trump's public disclosure of his income tax returns. Hoffman made the announcement via a post which he said was in response to an online crowd sourcing effort to raise money for veterans. The Silicon Valley billionaire challenged Trump to release his returns prior to the last debate that will happen on October 19.
It should be noted that amid growing clamor for Trump to address the issue about his tax returns, the Republican candidate has continued to refuse. Hoffman said in his post, "Given Trump's vocal support of veterans, I imagine he will recognize the great good that can come from Kiernan's proposal."
