Draw Something's 50M Downloads Break Records and Angry Birds, Plus Top Drawings

Zynga's Draw Something app has broken records with having 50 million downloads in 50 days and topping the charts for sold apps in both free and paid grossing lists.

Draw something is claimed to be the fastest growing mobile app in history.  The app was sitting atop of the App Store charts a few weeks ago until it was bumped to second after Rovio released its latest Angry Birds Space app.  Angry Birds held onto the number one spot for a couple weeks but Draw Something has again reclaimed first place.

"We believe it's not only the fastest-growing original mobile game of all time - 50 days to hit 50 million downloads - but one of the fastest growing web sensations that we've seen," quoted  Zynga in a statement by PC Mag.

Critics have called Zynga's acquisition of OMGPOP, creators of Draw Something, hasty and were skeptic about the company's future returns.  Draw Something's top ranking may be a good indicator that Zynga is on the right track.

Users play Pictionary with a partner using their mobile device screen as a canvas.  The drawer is given three choices to draw.  Users then use their finger to draw the object as quickly as possible and hope that their partner can guess correctly. Users can buy additional colors and brushes from within the app to assist in creating more elaborate drawings.

At its peak, Zynga reported that over six billion drawings have been made and users were creating 3,000 drawings per second.
