Super Smash Bros 3DS Spectator Mode Confirmed

The Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS details keep coming from Nintendo ahead of the staggered release of both versions, with the 3DS title set to hit on October 3. The Wii U version does not yet have a set release date, but is due out some time this holiday season.

Meta Knight Unveiled As Playable Character In Upcoming Super Smash Bros

Several new characters and other details were revealed at E3 as expected, and we got to see the game in action in a live tournament. Even after these major announcements, though, series director Masahiro Sakurai continues to give us comparatively smaller details through the official site in the form of a daily picture update.

The 3DS version of the game has been getting more attention in these updates as its release date draws near, and today's post is no different. It focuses on the handheld edition's Classic mode, which Sakurai described as follows.

Yesterday, leaked video footage of unannounced Super Smash Bros characters seemingly confirmed the legitimacy of earlier images purporting to show the full character roster. In addition, other details and pictures were posted online as well, and Sakurai's post today does nothing to prove they aren't real. He discusses the 3DS Spectator Mode, a detail shown off in one of the leaked images.

"Spectator Mode is available even on the compact 3DS version!! In this mode, you can watch players all around the world fight and make bets with in-game gold. Wager wisely by checking out the player names, rules, win rates, odds, fighters, and stage!!"

"Being able to cheer someone on is what really makes spectating matches fun. This time, 1st and 2nd place will get prizes in four-player matches, and spectators can bet the gold they win on Bonus Chances."

Keep checking back for more Super Smash Bros. news each day, where we'll hopefully see new character reveals or a Wii U release date, or if Nintendo responds to the leaked news.
