Stardew Valley Beginner's Guide on What To Work on During Winter

Stardew Valley is a cozy farming simulator game that lets players plant crops and sell their harvests while also building their plots and increasing their relationship with the townspeople.

Because the basic premise of the game is farming, it is important to note that weather and seasons are crucial factors in players' success. Particularly, seasons change what crops you can plant and some stuff in the game can only be accessed at certain points.

Among the four seasons, winter is probably the most difficult season to get to, and not just because there is no way to plant crops on your farm. Additionally, it is much harder to maintain your farm compared to the rest of the year.

Fortunately, though, there is still a lot that you can do during the freezing season that can help you progress as well as some winter-specific stuff.

It is also worth noting that the only things you can farm during this time of the year are wild seeds and powdermelon, which is significantly fewer than normal, according to The Gamer.

When players plant and grow wild seeds, they will be able to produce winter-specific goods, such as winter root, holly, crystal fruit, snow yam, and crocus.

Also, if you already have the Greenhouse, you will be able to plant normally albeit using a much smaller space because the building lets you plant any crop regardless of the season.

Furthermore, with all of the time that you have, because you're not farming, you can refocus on taking better care of your animals. Chickens and cows will produce eggs and milk every day, which is a steady source of income, which is particularly important for players just starting out.

Also, processing eggs and milk will let you produce mayonnaise and cheese, which can be used for other things. It is important to remember to pet your animals daily as it will make it faster to increase their relationship with you, which in turn lets them produce higher-quality ingredients.

Other Notable Events

Another way that players can make money during winter is by foraging, fishing, and mining, which allows you to find valuable items. It is also recommended to use the winter season to increase your relationship with villagers and celebrate birthdays, said GameRant.

In particular, mining is relatively the same in winter as it is during other seasons because it is underground. In Stardew Valley, players will be able to find various ores and resources that can either be sold or used to make machines or craft and upgrade tools.

On top of these, there are some important events that occur during winter that players should keep an eye out for, such as The Feast Of The Winter Star Festival and The Gift Exchange. The first event takes place on the 25th day of winter and the townspeople come together to exchange gifts.

The custom in Pelican Town is that you give a gift to a person who is a resident and you will, in turn, receive one from a different townsfolk. On Winter 18, Lewis will send you a letter where he tells you who to send a gift to, according to MSN.
