The game trailer for Squirrel With a Gun, which was released two years ago, was the most-watched on TikTok and the biggest video of that year on Facebook. It beat out other highly popular games such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Call of Duty.

Squirrel With a Gun was made by game director Dan DeEntremont and features the titular rodent running through a town equipped with regular-sized guns. Players will chase down unsuspecting victims and take down Agents using a variety of weapons.

Players will eventually develop a knack for crime and mayhem as they travel the region in search of golden acorns. Squirrel With a Gun was seemingly inspired by Yakuza and Shadow of the Colossus, according to IGN.

Those who are eager to go nuts can pre-order Squirrel With a Gun starting this week and will be available at $30 full price. The game seems to be similar to games like Goat Simulator 3 which focuses on exploration but adds shooting combat.

The trailers that have been released so far about the game showed a loadout of 12 different weapons and a toy car that the protagonist can travel in, said Windows Central.

DeEntremont said that he has had the idea of a squirrel holding a regular-sized gun in his head for quite a while. He noted that game developers often have thousands of ideas they think about but argued that each one would take a long time to execute.

During the game's inception, the only certain ideas were a squirrel holding a normal-sized gun and powerful recoil. Since then, the team has evolved the recoil into a way for players to enhance their movement.

A Unique Physics-Based Shooter Game

They then thought about what would happen if the game was set in a normal suburban neighborhood and included some chaos. The developers thought that simply tormenting unarmed civilians alone would not be very challenging.

What they thought about was nameless faceless goons, which is a bad guy archetype that everyone can get behind. This was how Squirrel With a Gun's Agent enemies were brought to life.

The weapons that players will find in Squirrel With a Gun will be more than just tools of mass destruction. They will also factor into the game's traversal and platforming sections. The game director noted that each weapon enhances the squirrel's jump in a unique way.

The pistol, for example, will give players a few extra midair "jumps" while the shotgun provides a huge amount of vertical movement. On the other hand, one of the bigger weapons, the rocket launcher, while causing massive destruction, can shoot the squirrel far distances, according to GamingBolt.
