Monday, Aug. 15, Dota fans noticed discrepancies in the computation of Dota Pro Circuit points by the Valve DPC website and some 'unofficial' Dota updates and stats websites like Liquipedia. The 'official' DPC standings from Valve's website overturn previous announcements that the Dota pro team Fnatic was already eliminated from TI contention by a slim margin of .05 points.
Fnatic, Not Outsiders Grabs Final TI Direct Invite
In a blog post about the recently concluded PGL Arlington Major, Valve confirmed that Fnatic takes the final slot for the Singapore TI. Previously, other Dota websites reported that this final slot for a direct The International invite went to the Outsiders.
Aside from this mix-up in circuit points, some fans were also confused by Valve's announcements because many noticed that there are Valve posts in some languages telling that the final slot is going to Fnatic, while others have Outsider going. As of writing, Valve has already fixed these concerns but is yet to make clarifications about this error.
A report from Dot Esports shares that calculations run by other sources, including Liquipedia, states that Outsiders qualified for the final TI11 direct invite after being eliminated in the PGL Arlington Major. These last-minute points push made the team grab the 12th spot in the DPC ranking, beating Fnatic by just .05 points. This was not until Valve announced some clarifications.

Following a rule not published on the official DPC rule page, Outsider did not gain enough DPC points to qualify for the direct TI invite because of some point penalties. This penalty is applied because the team had some changes on its roster mid-season by letting a stand-in play.
Also, it was just recently when Valve announced that this discrepancy results from the fact that the Dota 2 company does not give teams partial points and rounds down DPC scores after penalties. During the DPC Tours, Outsiders were subject to a number of penalties.
Valve Applied Unwritten DPC Rules for Teams with Stand-Ins
A report from AFK Gaming elaborates that Valve has subtracted points for teams like OG, Soniqs, and Team Aster for some roster changes the teams executed during the different pro-circuit tournaments this year. However, these changes did not cause any changes in the top 12 DPC rank.
Earlier Tuesday, Aug. 16, Fnatic published a post addressing their reaction to their unexpected TI qualification. This will be the team's 9th consecutive TI appearance. In The International 2019, the pro team landed almost at last place with their 13-16th place finish.
In their announcement, Fnatic thanked fans who supported them in the current season.
With the confusion this pointings mishap caused, many DOTA fans criticized Valve for the lack of transparency in applying unwritten rules and for publishing unclear announcements. Furthermore, the Dota 2 company also received some flak because of scalpers selling Singapore The International tickets for ridiculously high prices.
