Earlier last month, Sports architecture firm Populous and Australian esports team PWR announced that they are in the process of building the world's first elite esports training and content facility for the hit video game Fortnite. In recent reports, the said partnership between the Australian organizations sets its eyes on hopefully designing a stadium for the 2032 Olympic Games.

According to Populous's official media release, the idea of building an elite sports training hub in the Fortnite metaverse originally came from gaming content creator Lachlan Power. Lachlan Power and his team have first envisioned creating a high-performance content and gaming facility that has the potential to be built in the real world. But before all these, the creative team eyes on establishing the project first in Fortnite.
The said virtual esports training facility in Fortnite was first launched last July 7. The virtual facility is specifically built for the needs of PWR as a Fortnite content-creating team. The team eyes the project to help them socialize with the gaming community, experience an elite training space, test the building design, and interact with the facility even before it has been built.
"One Day We Hope to See It Built in Reality": PWR Creators
In a report from Brisbane Times, PWR and Populous first built the esports arena with the vision of accommodating millions of Fortnite players and becoming a first-of-its-kind virtual esports hub. Recently, the partnership plans to create real-world sports structures that they hope will be designed for the 2032 Summer Olympics.
The team behind the brilliant project made use of the simple nature in which Fortnite creative mode operates. In Fortnite Creative, there is no longer a need for complicated CAD software and coding. The partnership saw Fortnite's creative mode as a 'viable architectural visualization solution' that is accessible to the gaming community.
Populous see this new partnership as a leap for architectural technologies and solutions. Unlike structural planning applications, having to use this type of medium help architects effectively assess structures even before they are built.
With the help of Populous' knowledge and experience in designing elite training facilities and esports arenas, this PWR facility can be considered a structure unlike anything built in the metaverse.
Populous senior architect Al Baxter shared in a press release that they wanted first to explore how the firm could use PWR's brand in the actual form of the building to create a fantastic connection between the brand's form and shape and also the building.
PWR Launches First Elite Esports Facility in Fortnite
In a report from Sports Pro Media, they shared that Populus has a longstanding history of developing important sports stadiums around the globe, including the Sydney Olympic Stadium (now Accor Stadium) in Australia and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Populus has also constructed elite training facilities and specialized esports arenas.
"You walk into an amazing central collaboration space that can be seen from all areas of the facility. There are key spaces like the multi-functional event area, PWR Lachlan's office, the boardroom, broadcast and VR streaming studios, the content creator's editing suite and esports gamers' training space on the upper level which are all connected to the central space. On the ground floor is the merchandise area and operational spaces," Baxter said in the same press release from Populous.
Esports and gaming content creation are two industries that have seen massive growth in the last few years. In the coming years, more gaming and esports enthusiasts will spend more time in virtual worlds.
